The Lower School room

Lower School is an academic division of Broadwater Academy, serving part of the pre-K through Grade 12 community on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Classrooms hold steady routines and a challenging curriculum, with talented instructors guiding each group through the day.

Children build reading, writing, number sense and reasoning step by step. Teachers watch how each child works, adjust the pace, and keep expectations clear. Small daily gains add up across the year.

The school's aim is written plainly: to develop respectful, civic-minded leaders and productive citizens. That work starts early, with habits of attention, courtesy and effort that carry into Middle and Upper School. For specifics on a Lower School day, a family can ask the school directly.

What to expect

Summer Math Assignments by Course Enrollment

Summer math assignments are grouped by the course a student will take next year, not by current grade. Find your child's rising grade and course, then complete the assignment for that course. If a course or grade is not listed, contact the teacher named for that course. Questions about an assignment go to that teacher by email.

What this looks like in practice

In a typical Lower School day, children arrive, settle in, and start with a short task at their seat. Morning brings reading and writing, often in small groups. After lunch and recess, the afternoon turns to math, science, or social studies. The day ends with a story, a cleanup routine, or a wrap-up talk about what the class learned.

What parents notice is that children start to carry routines home. They hang up a coat without being asked. They finish a page and check it. They talk at dinner about something they read. That kind of follow-through is built by doing the same things in the same order, day after day, with an adult nearby.
